As I look back at the beginning of the semester I see how much my learning intentions had changed compared to the end of the semester. At the beginning, I focused more on me as a writer and expanding my skills beyond historical analysis. However, as the semester progressed my intentions honed in on my writing skills over me as a writer since those improved skills changed me as a writer. I am more continuous as a writer when it comes to representing voices within my writing and worked on some of my issues of vagueness in my writing. In a way, I was successful in my original learning intention in expanding my skills as a writer beyond historical analysis since I have become a better writer overall.
Prompt #9 allowed me to be valuable in my writing while applying what I learned over the course of the semester. What I learned about voicing perspectives, improving my overall writing skills, and, then, expanding my vocabulary showed in Prompt #9. On top of writing about my perspectives on masculinity from my experiences as a child, I feel like this prompt was when I succeeded in my Prompt #1 goal of expanding my writing skills as I reached beyond writing academically and into personal introspection.
Essay #1 was a very unique experience in my experience as a writer since it was the first time focused so much on two perspectives. Which was great since I got to work on my learning intentions on perspectives. However, focusing on Murray and Graff’s perspectives forced me to question my thoughts on binary writing style. Synthesizing their perspectives made me see that there are layers to writing style, which would lead me to make my perspectives on writing style.
Raw Prompt #5 was the first big challenge for me when it came to brainstorming for a project because of the freedom I had for topics. I had a chance to tackle one of the larger topics I wanted to put my eyes on in the negative perspectives on the Humanities, which was an expansive topic in of itself. In addition, My learning intentions changed from expanding my writing skills to focusing on different perspectives in my writing. My learning intention proved useful in tackling the expansive topic of the Humanities, as seen in the exercises in Raw Prompt #5. The “and” exercise forced me to look into different perspectives to continue the sense and helped me with my, then, learning intention.
The Work From Home assignment on November 26th allowed me to reflect on my writing style and what I still needed to improve as a writer. When I wrote about style was more about my writing style than writing in general as it changed over the semester. I used to think writing styles were binary until I found out how to mix both casual and formal writing styles. Now I see that writing style is determined by the audience, not the style the writer already has. In addition, The Work From Home assignment allowed me to change my learning intentions to focus more on my vagueness in writing while working toward essay #3.
Project #2 allowed me to express myself as a researcher on a topic I was passionate about outside of history. The entire process of research, proposing my findings, and presenting them in a fun way through a website was an amazing experience overall. However, my work on the project allowed me to continue my learning intentions as a writer by forcing me to improve. The pace the project set when it came to presenting results caused me to hone in on the perspective I wanted to present while improving my revisions consistently. Project #2 was a great challenge and I see it as a major achievement for me in my writing journey.
